When naelany asked me to do a guest rec for TU, I think I grinned like an idiot for a full two hours afterwards. I’d never have dreamt of being recc’d on this wonderful blog, let alone being trusted to keep my inner Twislut on a leash—albeit a very long, stretchy leash—long enough to write a reasonably calm and coherent rec. And then there was the matter of deciding what to rec. But after much fussing, fretting, and a very long debate between me, myself, and I, I’ve at last come to a decision.
NanaMun is one of my all-time favorite authors. To add to the deliciousness of her writing, she’s also a Jakeward lover (a.k.a. my soul sister). So, as I often do in my spare time, I was snooping through her stories and saw a rather recent piece of pure Seth/Jasper YUM that I had somehow missed before. Sunkissed Skin and A Dimpled Smile is one of those fics that just makes your insides squishy and your toes tingly and the constant curl of a smile tug at your lips. Seth is wide-eyed and sweet and bratty and pouts quite often (which I must say I don’t mind at all, because his pout is absurdly adorable *wink*), whereas Jasper is all smirks and Texas twang and honeyed words straight outta the hive. The pair are different, but fit together so well even if they—damn them and their complete obliviousness—can’t see the chemistry for themselves. Between sneaky library spying and proms and pretty boys and a bloody ocean of misunderstandings, NanaMun manages to keep that oh-so-precious balance of driving me mad and making my face sore from all the silly grinning. It’s truly a testament to how gifted she is, that I’ll read anything she dishes out, even *gasp* fluff (says the out-and-proud Queen of angst h00rs). So when you’re done melting in the pure, gooey sweetness of Sunkissed Skin and A Dimpled Smile, check out her other stories for some more delicious fics to keep you busy (and blushing).
Now, I ask you, who the hell wouldn’t read a fic where Edward wanks via webcam, Jasper pretends to be a girl (even though he is clearly all man *swoon*), and the resulting madness includes vibrators and barbeque kisses?
That’s what I thought.
What Matters by the lovely Strae makes me rather swoony every time I so much as think about it. It’s one of the most splendid combinations of plot, porn, drama, fluff, angst, and cock-blocks I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. Edward is your average straight, drop-dead gorgeous man, and when by some blessed stroke of fate (and a dash of boredom) he decides to put his roommate’s webcam to good use, he meets a girl named “Jazz” and finds himself in a relationship that is completely unlike anything he’s ever experienced. His infatuation leads to a rather spontaneous—and stalker-ish—appearance on this Jazz person’s doorstep. Imagine poor Edward’s surprise upon being greeted with a tall, tattooed, sexy-as-hell gay man with a personality that makes you want to give him squish-hugs. And as luck would have it, a man who just so happens to be completely and totally smitten with Edward.
So, if any of the afore-mentioned tidbits interest you, please do make your merry way on over to this delicious slice of slashy pie, and send Strae heaps of confectionary sweet things so she’ll let her boys come out to play again soon.
And in the spirit of sweet things, my last rec is a Drarry fic by the title of Et Dona Ferentes. I’ve only recently dipped my toes into the Harry Potter fandom, mostly because it’s just so massive and intimidating. This is one of the very first HP fics I read, and if you haven’t tried out the fandom, this story is the perfect way to get started. It’s set post-Deathly-Hallows with Harry in a mopey, sulking mood holed up in Grimmauld Place, but that lasts all of a page before tragedy happens and by some strange, cruel twist of fate, Harry is given charge of his godson Teddy, sharing joint custody of the infant with none other than Draco Malfoy.
This story is a lovely, curious blend of sweet and sad, angst and fluff. Draco and Harry will make you want to rip your hair out one minute, and melt into sticky, fluff-induced nothingness the next. And Bear (sorry, but Teddy Lupin is forever “Bear” to me after reading this) is absolutely adorable, though with a true gift for bad timing, I must say. Hidingfromsomeone has created a story and characters so rich and life-like I feel like I could be the one putting Bear to bed, or brewing potions in the basement, or snogging Draco for as long as I like . . .
Ahem.
So, I highly recommend you check out all three of these stories, and leave oodles and noodles of love and favorites and alerts for the fantastic authors who came up with them. Thanks again to naelany for giving me the opportunity to do a guest rec; it was an absolute pleasure!
